Open Call // Contemporary Art Books for a Temporary Bookstore in Berlin

Blog entry by Alena Sokhan in Berlin // Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014

#TABS (Temporary Artist’s Books Shop) is calling for submissions of artists’ books, zines, small presses, and other non-traditional publications to be displayed and sold at a temporary bookstore that will be held in LAGE EGAL in January and February 2015. The project space will be converted into a reading room and library for visitors to browse through and purchase the works.

The open call for submissions started on Nov. 13, 2014, and will close on Dec. 19, 2014, for Object Books, collectors editions, and any other creative book-like constructions. The open call looks for works that play with text and image, encouraging experimentation with spatial and sensory extensions of the book format. They also want to localize mass production of the publication industry with unique multiples and collector’s books. Furthermore, LAGE EGAL would like to situate books in the artist’s practice by displaying the books with other works by the same artist.

Books must be able to be displayed on bookshelves and stands, and handled by the public for the duration of the exhibition without gloves, though particularly elaborate, delicate or unique books that are not meant for handling by the general public, could be shown in the glass showcase.

A short, introductory email about your work should be submitted to Pierre Granoux at off-space[at]lage-egal.de

Open call ends on Dec. 19, 2014.
