Exhibition // Last Sunday at Sonntag

Article and Photographs by Sandra Camey in Berlin // Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016

In a city where the weekend seems difficult to recover from, Sonntag provides the perfect chilled-out art oasis for Sundays in Berlin. As a monthly, nomadic exhibition series that takes place in various private apartments, Sontag-founders April Gertler and Adrian Schiesser present the work of a single artist and serve her/his favorite cake during each edition. On the 20th November, April Gertler opened her own Berlin apartment to the work of Elizabeth McTernan and baked a Lithuanian Honey Cake.

In the middle of the pop-up exhibition space, a table was set to provide the opportunity for visitors to meet the artist. Through the event, she conversed with visitors about her work, as well as about her travel experiences and interest in science, both of which inspired the ‘DARK WAS THE NIGHT, COLD WAS THE GROUND’ exhibition. McTernan’s one-day exhibition and convivial conversation encouraged us to reflect upon our relationship to the world around us.
