Learn to Say Goodbye at Camp Solong 2018

June 5, 2018

Camp Solong is seeking applicants from all creative fields to join the immersive and performative outdoor summer camp on Orr’s Island, Maine, from August 10–13, 2018. Future campers interested in rehearsing and investigating the process of letting go (of their sense of self or of others), saying goodbye and introspection through play, fiction, and nature can apply to take part in the three-day adventure life before July 1. The experimental program will include activities such healing exercises and performative practices which aim to investigate the universal task of saying goodbye.

The camp, which has previously been hosted in Braunschweig, Germany and Ekenäs, Finland, began with the artists and directors Dafna Maimon and Ethan Hayes-Chute‘s own performative practices. Within the short duration of the camp, as participants make personal connections with one another, they will be all too aware of the inevitability of saying goodbye.

Camp Solong will host six people along with the camp’s directors. Each camper will be provided with their own bunk bed in the camp structure, complete with a personal shelf and uniform, and food will also be provided. However, participants are responsible for associated travel costs.
