Making Futures Bauhaus+ research project will be opening its Making Futures Summer School in Berlin at the end of August. Over the duration of two weeks, over 80 selected participants will take part in a diverse program facilitated by international practitioners in the field of spatial practice. The curriculum includes talks, presentations and even bread baking and will attempt to redefine the way we learn about spatial practices in an environment that will act as part urban laboratory, walk-in conference, intimate living room, hospitality kitchen and community cinema.

To coincide with the daily school activities, there will also be a Night School with an open public programme taking place throughout the duration of the Summer School. The Night School will feature a wide-ranging evening programme comprised of screenings, performances, reading groups and lectures, to which everybody is invited to attend with the intention to facilitate further cross-pollination and knowledge exchange beyond the school. A few highlights from the programme include a lecture-performance by art writer Christopher Dell and architect and urban planner Bernd Kniess, as well as an after-dark trip with Israeli visual artist Alona Rodeh, discussing urban illumination and artificial darkness in the electrified city. Mauricio Corbalán, founder of m7red, and architect Stavros Stavrides will also be giving a talk moderated by Berlin-based architect Markus Bader.

Making Futures Bauhaus+ is a collaboration between the Berlin University of the Arts and Raumlabor Berlin on the occasion of the Bauhaus’ centenary. In the past, Making Futures has led a series of short-term, action-led activities in Istanbul, Palermo and Oberweissbach, however this year the Summer School project will be set up in the Haus Der Statistik, Berlin. The once defunct building is currently being transformed into a culture and arts space and will act as a learning environment that breaks away from institutional logic.
