Berlin Art Prize Finalists Present Solo Exhibitions Across Berlin’s Project Spaces

For the sixth edition of the Berlin Art Prize, an independent award for Berlin-based contemporary artists, each of the nine finalists will have a solo exhibition at various project spaces in the city. The solo exhibitions open on August 30th and 31st and will be accompanied by a series of public events, including readings, performances, discussions and workshops. During Berlin Art Week, the three winners will be announced at a public award ceremony and party in the Atelierhaus des Flutgraben e.V. on September 14th.

This year’s nominees include artists Esteban Rivera Ariza, Musquiqui Chihying, Marianna Christofides, Larissa Fassler, Ada Van Hoorebeke, Wieland Schönfelder, Agnes Scherer, Joshua Schwebel and Min-Wei Ting. The solo exhibitions will be held at gr_und, Very, Display, SMAC, Kinderhook & Caracas, Ashley, Horse & Pony, Kreuzberg Pavilion and The Institute for Endotic Research (TIER), respectively. Artists are evaluated anonymously by a five-member jury of artists, critics and curators. This year’s jury includes Julieta Aranda, Krist Gruijthuijsen, Käthe Kruse, Henrike Naumann and Laurie Rojas. The 2019 Berlin Art Prize winners will receive prize money, an invitation to a residency at 80121 Napoli and a trophy designed by Saâdane Afif.
