Open Call for Artists: 48 Stunden Neukölln

Jan. 24, 2020

The arts festival 48 Stunden Neukölln invites applications for this year’s theme ‘(BOOM)’. The festival will take place on June 19–20, 2020. Since its foundation in 1999, the festival has been focused on presenting and promoting art that contributes and reflects on current social issues. As Berlin’s biggest free art festival, its objective is to create artworks that will raise questions about society and promote ongoing exchange with the international art scene.

Reflecting on this year’s topic ‘(BOOM)’, the artists are invited to apply with their inspiring conversations and project proposals. As the organisers put it: “Berlin is a ‘boomtown’, a hot spot of the art world, and Neukölln has for years been a key location for experimentation, artistic research and unconventional presentation. The word ‘boom’ sounds first and foremost positive. It describes an upswing and the interest in something that because of it is suddenly sought after. But who really profits in Berlin from the associated dynamics of a boom and for whom does it constitute a threat?”

Applications for the performing project/event, guided tours, open studios and galleries are welcome. The performing project idea/event has to be content-related to the theme of the year. The open studios, galleries and guided tours that are integrated separately in the communication of the festival, are an exception to the theme.
