Stay-At-Home Studio: Artists Take Over Berlin Art Link’s Instagram for Glimpse of Life Under Quarantine

Apr. 28, 2020

Faced with a new temporary condition resulting from the widespread effects of COVID-19, traditional avenues for art viewing are being rapidly re-conceptualized. With this in mind, we’ve invited a selection of Berlin-based and international artists to takeover our Berlin Art Link Instagram page, shedding light on how this exceptional time has (or hasn’t!) affected their practice. Whether they are fortunate enough to have solitary studios where their work can go on as usual, or are now self-isolating at home without access to childcare or materials for their practice, these artists give us a realistic view of their current everyday experience.

⁣Berlin Art Link has visited more than 130 studios in the last ten years, and we’ve asked some of the artists featured in those profiles to take us into their current practice over a period of 24-hours. Our first Artist Takeover began on March 23rd, with Przemek Pyszczek, who showed us what social distancing looks like in the rural town of Żary, Poland, where he currently lives and works. Later that week, Berlin-based artist Christine Sun Kim offered a glimpse into the reality of work-life balance under quarantine with a toddler. We then heard from Jen Ray, who is based in New York, at a time when the corona virus crisis had just begun to rock the city. Lindsay Lawson got creative with her takeover, posting a series of art world-inspired ‘Guides to Social Distancing.’ We also had exciting 24-hour takeovers by Berlin-based artists Christa Joo Hyun D’Angelo, Klara Hobza, Ariel Reichman and Michelle Jezierski, Dafna Maimon, Pakui Hardware, Egill Sæbjörnsson and James Clar, all of which are archived in the story highlights and feed of our Instagram page.

Stay tuned as we continue our Artist Takeovers with Peaches and Black Cracker tomorrow, and many more to come!
