In 1994, filmmaker and multimedia artist Martha Colburn began performing live with a combination of 16mm and Super-8 projectors, initially used for music videos. After long research she began working on her films sequentially, all of them in-camera edits. She uses three to four layers at a time, simulating a 3D effect. Her recent videos show contemporary political issues and violence through the lense of childhood imagination. ‘Dolls vs. Dictators’ (2010) is concerned with hunting down the violent roots of her home country, the U.S.A.

Martha Colburn lives between New York and Holland.
