Long-standing Berlin gallery Circle Culture recently opened a new outpost on Potsdamer Straße’s ‘Gallery Mile,’ in a 560 square-metre warehouse building. The inaugural exhibition in the new space – Potse 68. (named after the gallery’s location) – features the work of 23 international artists, 10 of whom are new recruits to the Circle Culture gallery team.

Gallerist Johann Haehling von Lanzenauer was a creative in the punk and skateboard scene of the 90s. He and his Hamburg-based business partner Dirk Staudinger established Circle Culture as a project space for artistic subcultures in 2001. The pair wanted to present ‘urban’ artists in a non-traditional way, showcasing all the facets of what urban art could encompass, including abstract works, highly conceptual murals and installations.

Some of the highlights of the inaugural exhibition include Maya Hayuk‘s large, colourful mural, created specially for this show and Mexico City-based artist Curiot‘s hallucinogenic paintings of fantastical creatures. Aaron Rose‘s vibrant graphic designs add a playful element to Potse 68.

The massive new exhibition space provides an opportunity for Circle Culture to expand their representation of established and emerging artists. Their previous location in Mitte will be re-purposed as a shop for art editions and multiples.
