Open Call for Women, Gender Queer, Inter* and Trans* Artists // District Studio Grant Program is Back!

Article by Caitlin Eyre // May 06, 2016

District is once again calling for applications for a sixth month studio grant that has been explicitly developed to support the work of women, gender queer, Inter* and Trans* artists. The grant aims to support artists structurally by providing a free space for experimentation and research, regardless of their eventual outcome.

The grant comprises the free use of District’s 15 sqm ‘satellite’ studio in the Malzfabrik area for a period of six months from August 1, 2016 to January 31, 2017. In addition, the artist will be actively supported by the District team in the research for and realization of their ideas. The aim of the grant is to provide a free space for experiments and research, regardless of their outcome. Unfortunately District is not able to cover any expenses for travel, accommodation, project funding or other expenses.

Founded in 2009, District has realized a multifaceted program with the aim of creating an ongoing dialogue between diverse artistic, curatorial, investigative and educational practices. The studio grant is an important element of District’s long term engagement in building a strong and diverse artistic community. This program offers chosen artists the opportunity to engage in an open forum for the reflection, advancement and interconnection of artistic practices through transdisciplinary studio talks and the continued involvement of the artists in future programming.
