Announcement // Art Spin Berlin Gears Up for 2016 Event

Article by Caitlin Eyre in Berlin // Tuesday, Aug. 02, 2016

Art Spin Berlin is a community-based, interactive bike tour of creative venues, performances and site-specific installations throughout various neighbourhoods in Berlin. The tour is inspired and supported by Art Spin Toronto, which was developed in Toronto, Canada in 2009. After two highly successful tours in 2014 and 2015, which drew over 350 cyclists each, Art Spin Berlin is currently offering participants the opportunity to take part in a curated bike tour of selected art projects in the buzzing neighbourhoods of Wedding and Moabit. The tour includes a participatory bicycle orchestra, performances, visits to SAVVY Contemporary and PANKE art galleries, music and sound by Klara Geist and much more. The tour will end at the Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik with a selection of food, drinks and a film program curated by Berlin pop-up cinema company Mobile Kino.

Art Spin Berlin was founded with the aim of creating a community-based art event that highlights the diversity and vibrancy of the dynamic Berlin arts scene. The use of group cycling as the mode of transport to view artwork around the city encourages social interaction, sustainability and community involvement in the arts, thereby offering the general public a unique entry point into the city’s many new and upcoming art venues.

“Berlin is full of both art and bike lovers, it made a lot of sense to combine them into a festival that highlights both worlds”, says Art Spin Berlin founder and Canadian artist Vanessa Brazeau. “As an organizer, my goal is to combine contemporary art in public space with urban cycling in order to discover new perspectives on Berlin’s less explored neighborhoods and bring exposure to the amazing artists and collectives working here”.
