Exhibition of Antinomies – Gegensätze at Galerie OPEN in Berlin

Berlin Art Link and galerie OPEN by Alexandra Rockelmann presented Madeline Stillwell and Allison Fall in their first two-person exhibition curated by Jeni Fulton.

Antinomies: Gegensätze, explored the discomfort that comes when we push past that which we know is rational, reaching a state which transcends empirical confines. Stillwell and Fall investigate the antinomies inherent in the creative process through the media of performance, collage and sculpture. Breaking out of given confines, be they physical, social or personal, are themes which pervade both artists’ work. Stillwell invokes the city’s viscera and vital flows with her use of found detritus, creating “action paintings” with clay and urban matter during her performances. Fall works with material contrasts – combinations of chocolate and clay, of mass and fragility, of the tenacious relationship between audience and performer.

The exhibition featured collage, sculpture and four live performance events, the last of which was collaborative. Ongoing actions took place during the gallery opening hours. The Exhibition went on from Sep 9 – Oct. 22, 2011
