PR for Shane Pennington’s installation Transcendence

Berlin Art Link Productions has been working closely with internationally recognized artist Shane Pennington to develop a dynamic and cohesive image of his work for a global audience. Mr. Pennington, whose work specializes in large-scale installations, is also the founder and creative director of the Aurora Project (a free event that takes over approximately 32 acres of land in the Dallas arts district for one of the largest media arts exhibitions in the United States). Including the graphic and print design, production of Mr. Pennington’s press releases, cooperative development of his artist statement, and the development of respective project descriptions and exhibition texts, Berlin Art Link Productions is responsible for the press of Mr. Pennington’s ongoing projects.

His latest project, Transcendence, is an installation that engages the core of his artistic inquiries on a new level of spatiality and scale. Using the traditional Karesansui Japanese rock garden as an inspirational template, Pennington transforms the traditionally earth- bound elements of the garden into a dialogue between the environment and humanity. In Transcendence, Pennington encases the rocks within single blocks of ice that have been carved into larger-than-life human forms. Shipped from Belgium, where the purist block ice is found, to the United States, the artistic medium itself has undergone a journey before the final piece is installed. Each block of ice required six weeks to be made, requiring intense craft to ensure a seamless final form. The result is the collision between pure materialities: the pure ice block and the stone encased within.
