The opening quote on the analogueNOW! Festival for Analogue Photography 2015 asserts: “analogue photography isn’t nostalgia – it’s a conscious aesthetic decision.” To verify this claim, the festival presents an impressive array of analogue photography, proving it to be a medium of inexhaustible experimentation and innovation.
Running from Jan. 16 – Jan. 23, 2015, analogueNow! is uniquely concerned with exploring the possibilities of analogue photography. In addition to the photo exhibition, the festival is composed of workshops, artist panels, and a network brunch.
The exhibition part of the festival – titled Super Contemporary – presents a comprehensive view of contemporary analogue photography works and a variety of experimental techniques, like fluid photo-emulsion or roll film, featuring artists like Günter Derleth, Nathalie Daoust, Maja Gratzfeld and Lorenz Ebersbach. The workshops target experienced photographers as well as amateurs and beginners, with interactive events and practical demonstrations, offering tutorials on emulsion lift (polaroid), experiments with emulsion on photographic paper and a photogram workshop, among other techniques. There is also a polaroid photo-rally, a photo trading board, a marketplace for camera maniacs and analogue installations.
Artists’ panels will open critical discussions on contemporary issues of technology, reflecting on the significance of using analogue in a digital age.
The network brunch connects representatives of the creative industry, photo-related institutions and professional photographers and enables possible collaborations or partnerships.
The analogueNOW! Festival will open with a party, with live music and DJs, beginning at 6:00 pm on Jan. 16, 2015. A Secret (Photo) Santa game will be played: to participate, bring a photograph with you to the opening.
