To mark the lead-up to its 80th anniversary in 2026, Haus am Waldsee launches its first-ever Summer School, taking place from August 26th to 29th, 2025 in Berlin-Zehlendorf. This four-day program invites participants to engage with the complex histories of the house, once a private residence entangled in the ideological shifts of the 20th century, and later one of the first cultural institutions to reopen in post-war Berlin.
The Summer School will address questions of institutional memory, continuity and rupture, and the politics of cultural rebuilding in the immediate aftermath of WWII. Through archival workshops, artist talks, lectures, screenings and site-specific walks, the program will excavate overlapping social, historical and aesthetic layers of Haus am Waldsee’s past and reflect on how these inform its present role. Guest lecturers include artists and thinkers such as Kirsty Bell, Atièna R. Kilfa and Veit Laurent Kurz, among others.
20 places are available for participants aged 18 and up. No formal experience is required. The working languages are German and English. Applications can be sent via email to info@hausamwaldsee.de with the subject line: “Summer School 2025.”
