Open Call for Munich-Based Visual Artists

Nov. 27, 2025

Salta art is offering a two-month artist residency in Bahia, Brazil, open to visual artists living in Munich and the surrounding S-Bahn region. Taking place from May 1st to June 30th, 2026, the residency invites one artist to live and work in a historic 1930s mansion that once belonged to the Bahian painter Presciliano Silva, a landmark in Salvador’s cultural history. Pivô Salvador, established as a non-profit cultural association in 2023, builds on over a decade of Pivô’s work in São Paulo and serves as a multidisciplinary platform for contemporary art in Brazil’s Northeast, hosting experimental, transdisciplinary projects that foster dialogue with the city and its communities.

The residency provides a private studio, accommodation, daily breakfast and lunch, a monthly stipend, round-trip travel between Munich and Salvador and a research grant. Residents also receive curatorial mentorship and technical support from the Pivô team and will participate in a public program to present their work. Activities and guidance are defined collaboratively between the artist and Pivô’s curatorial team, with the full program announced at the start of the residency.

Artists across all visual media are encouraged to propose projects that engage with Salvador’s rich culture, vibrant communities and dynamic urban environment. Submissions can focus on research, experimentation or the development of new work inspired by local histories and everyday life.

Applications are open until December 14th, 2025 (midnight CET) via the Salta website. A selection committee from Salta and Pivô will review proposals, with the chosen artist announced in early 2026. This residency offers a rare opportunity to immerse yourself in a stimulating, collaborative environment and develop your practice in dialogue with a city full of history, culture and creativity.
