Open Call for EMAP Residencies 2026

Feb. 6, 2026

Founded by werkleitz and co-funded by Creative Europe since 2018, the European Media Art Platform (EMAP) is inviting European artists and collectives working in the fields of digital and media art, robotic art and bio art to apply for a two month production residency taking place between April and December 2026. As a network of 16 leading European organizations, the platform brings together festivals and institutions dedicated to interdisciplinary artistic practices. Each residency is designed as an intercultural and interdisciplinary exchange between artists and host organizations, providing an artist fee, travel support, production budget, free accommodation and access to professional labs and facilities.

The residency program includes an invitation to the kick-off conference and networking meeting in Braga, Portugal (May 8th-9th 2026), a stipend of €4,000, an additional €2,000 stipend for a collaborating artist or duo partner, a production budget of €4,000, free accommodation, travel expenses and free access to the technical facilities and/or media labs of the host institution. Beyond the residency period, EMAP supports the visibility and circulation of artistic work through exhibitions, festivals, conferences and workshops—both on-site and online.

The residency program emphasizes collaboration, therefore applicants must apply as a duo, collective or propose a collaborative project with a partner of their choice. Artists will apply to the EMAP consortium as a whole and indicate their preferred host organizations in order of priority. The residency is open to EU residents or taxpayers, and to residents or taxpayers of eligible non-EU countries. Undergraduate and master’s students are not eligible. The EMAP website lists the host organizations and eligible countries.
