Open Call for KVOST Residency and Claus Michaletz Preis

Mar. 6, 2026

The Kunstverein Ost is announcing this year’s KVOST Stipendium, awarded in combination with the Claus Michaletz Preis since 2022. Kunstverein Ost (KVOST) was established in 2018 and is dedicated to promoting artists from Central and Eastern Europe whose life or work are shaped by the former Eastern Bloc.

The €10,000 prize is established in memory of Claus Michaletz, the publisher and founder of the Secco Pontanova Foundation, whose focus is the exchange between Germany and Eastern European, Baltic and Southeastern European countries. With the grant, KVOST invites artists to trace the complex network of meanings of Leipziger Strasse / Dönhoffplatz and its surroundings or delve into other geographical and biographical aspects of the East. The works created in this process will be presented in a solo exhibition starting during Berlin Art Week in September 2026.

The residency will take place over the course of six weeks from August to September 2026. Of the prize money, €8,000 are allocated to the scholarship holders, and the remaining €2,000 will serve for purchasing a work by the selected artist for the Secco Pontanova Foundation. The scholarship includes a working space in Berlin, transportation to and from Berlin and a €2,500 exhibition budget.

Previous scholarship holders include Larisa Sitar of Romania in 2023, Magdalena Ciemierkiewicz of Poland in 2024 and David Apakidze of Georgia in 2025.
