Berlin Britzenale returns for its sixth edition from June 5th to 7th, 2026. Continuing its tradition of inhabiting a different allotment garden community in Neukölln’s district of Britz for each edition, it will take place this year at Kleingartenanlage Zur Windmühle e.V. for the duration of the program.

The starting point for this year’s edition, curated by Christof Zwiener, is the 125th anniversary of the Berlin-South District Association of Allotment Gardeners (Bezirksverband Berlin-Süden der Kleingärtner*innen e.V.), which will be celebrated on June 6th. On this occasion, Berlin Britzenale turns its attention to the future of allotment gardens in urban spaces—as places of neighborhood community, shared responsibility, self-organization, as well as sites of ecological practice and diversity. Central to this edition is the question of what potential allotment gardens may hold for sustainable urban development, particularly in the context of climate change, urban densification, housing shortages and social tensions.

Alongside an existing work by Eckhart Haisch—a 1985 sculpture titled ‘Ramificazioni’—20 artists have been invited to develop site-specific works that engage with the themes and context of this year’s exhibition. Participating artists include Wirya Budaghi, Stefan Demming, Ahu Dural, Dennis Fuchs, Elizabeth Gallon Droste, Jinran Ha, Ethan Hayes-Chute, Klara Hobza, Bethan Hughes, Marie Jeschke & Carolin Seeliger, Julia Kiehlmann, Stephan Mörsch, Christl Mudrak, Sophia Muriel, Lisa Premke, Anna Raczyńska, Marina Resende Santos, Nina Schuiki, Juliane Tübke and Frauke Zabel.

Allotment gardens are a historically, culturally, ecologically and socially significant part of Berlin, yet they are rarely experienced by a wider public. Berlin Britzenale invites visitors to explore this unique spatial and social model through a series of artistic interventions, revealing its layered histories, diverse forms and everyday practices. Alongside the three-day exhibition, a program of tours, talks and educational formats will further open up the site for new encounters.
