Open Call to Receive Brooklyn Studio Space

July 8, 2018

Interstate Projects, a gallery in Brooklyn, New York, has opened the application period for its autumn 2018 Studio Residency Program. One visual artist—based in the United States or internationally—will be selected by a juried panel and given a 300 square foot studio, located on-site at the gallery in Bushwick, for four months. Previous recipients include Ellie Hunter, Em Rooney, Roxanne Yamins and Daniel Phillis, among others, and former jury members include Maggie Lee (artist), Margaret Cross (Whitney Museum of American Art), James Michael Shaeffer (Director, Simon Lee Gallery), Korakrit Arunanondchai (artist), Sue de Beer (artist) and many more.

The Interstate Projects Studio Residency Program was founded in 2016 in an effort to support artists facing unsustainable real estate demands and the subsequent market effects on studio practices. The program will give artists more than just a space, also providing access to creative resources and networks in New York through studio visits, critiques and professional introductions. It should be noted, however, that the provided studio is not a live/work space and artists who do not reside in a commutable area will need to find their own accommodations. Travel and living expenses are not covered by Interstate Projects, nor can the gallery assist in visa, sponsorship or other immigration requirements.
