‘Points of Resistance’ Group Exhibition Opens at Zionskirche Berlin

Mar. 30, 2021

On Sunday, April 4th, the exhibition ‘Points of Resistance’ will open at the Zionskirche in Mitte. The show presents over 50 international artists, and is jointly produced by Gallery Kleiner von Wiese and MOMENTUM, curated by Constanze Kleiner and Rachel Rits-Volloch, in cooperation with David Elliott, Jan Kage, and Stephan von Wiese.

‘Points of Resistance’ has invited contemporary artists and thinkers from a diversity of places and perspectives to address the many meanings of resistance today. In an era that is witnessing the resurgence of authoritarianism, nationalism and racism, ‘Points of Resistance’ aims to provide an artistic antidote, especially in the context of Berlin’s complex political history.

Presented in Berlin’s Zionskirche, ‘Points of Resistance’ enters into dialogue with the history of the church as a site of resistance against the Nazis and as a safe haven for opposition groups during the GDR. Through a variety of media, including painting, photography, sculpture, video, sound, performance, and discussion, the exhibition acts as a point of reflection on these past political situations, as well as our present moment. According to curator Constanze Kleiner, “the Zionkirche church in Berlin has a distinguished history as a refuge and work space for people who think differently.” It is in that spirit that the exhibition invites its artists to present positions on resistance.

Amid the uncertainty around closures of cultural institutions as a result of the pandemic, as a house of worship, the Zionskirche will remain open to the public. The exhibition will be accompanied by a discussion series, a video program, artist talks, performances, concerts and children’s workshops.
