Open Call: Art for Black Lives Residency in Palm Springs

The aim of the Art for Black Lives residency is to create an environment conducive to creativity, productivity and community for emerging Black Trans visual artists via one-month funded residencies in Palm Springs, California, and to help foster an ethos of accessibility and support for Black Trans folks in Palm Springs, in a place with a rich LGBTQ+ history and culture. The residency is open to Black Trans visual artists working in any medium.

Recipients of the residency are provided with a live/work space for the month of August in the Lawrence Crossley neighborhood of Palm Springs, a $2,000 unqualified artist stipend to go toward transportation to and around Palm Springs, day-to-day expenses and material costs, and 3 pre-scheduled studio visits by curators and art professional from around Southern California.

To apply for the residency, you have to send a CV and artist statement , a statement of purpose (max. 500 words) for the residency answering the question of how would you plan to utilize the month in Palm Springs, and an artist’s portfolio providing images of 5-10 works for the panels review.

The jury panel consists of Erin Christovale, Che Gossett, Tavia Nyong’o, Robert Franklin, Camila McHugh and Will St. Amant.
