Announcement // Save the Date: Berlin Art Week SEPT 15 – 20

As media partner to this year’s Berlin Art Week, Berlin Art Link is excited to announce six packed days of leading international contemporary art across the city. From September 15th to 20th, Berlin Art Week brings together two of Berlin’s largest art fairs, a group of coinciding exhibitions from four of Berlin’s major art institutions, and over 20 exhibitions and events from institutional and independent galleries, project spaces, and private collections.

Another Berlin Art Link media partner, the 8th abc (art berlin contemporary) art fair boasts over 100 local and international artist and gallery contributors, hosted at the former train station and historical landmark Station Berlin, next to Gleisdreieck. The impressive display hosts international contemporary artists and galleries in an unfrenzied atmosphere, reflecting Berlin’s unpretentious attitude towards art production and exhibition. After its debut in 2014, the growing new art fair POSITIONS BERLIN moves to the ambitious Kreuzberg location Arena, a 100m by 70m converted hangar. Running from September 17th to 20th, both fairs present new and premier works by artists at the forefront of the international art scene, set to a backdrop of architectural innovation typical of the cultural capital.

Opening on September 15th, STADT/BILD (Image of a city) presents four thematically linked exhibitions at Berlinische Galerie, Deutsche Bank KunstHalle, KW Institute for Contemporary Art, and Nationalgalerie – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. Tied by the theme of “The City” these shows explore the institutional, social and physical aspects of cities, both real and imagined. Each with its own focus, the four exhibitions explore ideas of communality, ownership, identity, and temporality, reflecting a conceptual landscape in dialogue with location, architecture, and aesthetics.

Look forward to solo shows by Alicja Kwade and Gustav Metzger, and retrospectives of works by Cindy Sherman from the Olbricht collection at me Collectors Room, and of artists and teachers from the experimental mid-20th century american art institution, the Black Mountain College at the Hamburger Bahnhof. Check the program for exhibitions, openings, award ceremonies, performances, talks, and screenings.
