OPEN CALL: AURORA 2013 new media arts festival

As an artist do you feel your creative voice and perspective reflects and contributes to society? AURORA new media arts festival, a free contemporary art event in the public space of Downtown Dallas Arts District, presents a platform to express this voice within the realms of new media art. Now accepting artist submissions, AURORA pursues not only artists with a social conscience but also those who engage in social involvement––whose works present a dialogue between individuals and society. Technology will play a key role, as large-scale video projections, performances, and a variety of site-specific, multi-media installations will be the mainstay of the show.

For its third year, AURORA brings contemporary art to the heart of Dallas, Texas. Unique in its setting and scale, it spreads contemporary art across 68-acres of unexpected outdoor spaces in the Dallas Arts District. For a single evening, the city morphs into one big art gallery, scattering light, video, performance, and sound works from hundreds of local, national, and international artists.

This year’s project “Light of Convergence” highlights the dichotomy between technology and individuals with a focus on how new mediums of technology impact social awareness. These relationships can be improved through efficiencies in new technology, but at the same time can be complicated and distorted by unintended consequences. Through the medium of art, “Light of Convergence” hopes to explore and find balance in technology and its dualities.

In keeping with this year’s “Light of Convergence” theme, artist submissions are requested to be within the realms of light, video, and sound art. The deadline for submissions is June 15th, 2013.
