Last Saturday, Peres Projects opened Eddie Peake’s Penetrates The Body, Nullifies the Sense. There was a playful mood throughout the gallery as we walked past wrinkled scarves, khakis, and boxer briefs adhered to canvases with resin and doodled over neon with spray paint. The titles of the works were just as splashy as the saturated hues. The walls dividing the gallery space allowed us to see the works from different angles, frames, and perspectives. Most of the paintings were done on polished stainless steel, allowing one to see his or her reflection fragmented within the art work through spray painted words. Peake forces the viewer to engage and participate, becoming part of his exhibition rather than just viewing it.
