Open Call for Residency in Tartu, Estonia

July 19, 2022

The Berlin-based project space roam is pleased to announce in cooperation with the Printing and Paper Arts Centre TYPA the call for applications for a residency in Tartu, Estonia. They are looking for German artists who would like to work from mid-October to mid-November 2022 in Tartu with the option of an exhibition during the Gallery Night on November 25th 2022.

TYPA is an international institution founded in Spring 2010 as a private museum to fill the gap within memory institutions and to save the last surviving letterpress machines and equipment. They are looking for printmakers, but also encourage artists who are new to printmaking, as well as those in new media, sculpture, audio artists, painters and other artistic practices to apply. TYPA will offer a wide range of printmaking processes (etching, relief, silkscreen and more), darkroom photography, bookbinding and support for artists to develop their own projects.

Successful applicants will receive coverage of travel costs to and from Tartu, access to accommodation, the use of a studio and its equipment, the option of an exhibition during the Gallery Night, material for print and photo work, support, mediation and communication with local partners and networks, and exhibition organisation. Specialist equipment and tools will have to be purchased by the artist, however arrangements can be made with TYPA. Participants will be expected to make one public outcome during their residency, usually taking the form of an artist talk, exhibition, open studio, workshop, etc. Integration into Tartu’s creative community is also encouraged, with TYPA hosting tours, artists’ dinners and connecting artists to local events.

To apply, prospective applicants should send a letter of motivation (max. one A4 page), a short biography and/or artist statement and a portfolio with examples of work to m@roam-space.eu.
