Open Call for Fragile 2023 Festival of Dance, Music and Theater

Mar. 3, 2023

The Pina Bausch Centre in Wuppertal is hosting ‘Fragile – the International Festival for Young DanceMusicTheatre’ for the first time this autumn. The festival takes place from September 20th to October 1st, 2023.

The goal of the festival is to explore climate-neutral forms of art production and new aesthetics for ecological sustainability. Therefore, the programme is inviting seven artists and producers to present their sustainable projects at the festival. Applicants are ideally already involved in the fields of art and ecology or climate initiatives, and have worked with young people in different production stages. The proposals should also tackle social, ecological and economic spheres.

In the creation of the concept, applicants should consider the following questions: How can the stage become a field of experimentation on the topic of sustainability? What unique power does dance possess in cultivating global empathy? Can we organise international productions more sustainably? How can actions of solidarity in the arts be brought into focus? What new narratives, spaces, materials, and modes of production can be developed in terms of energy, mobility, food, and forms of collaboration, and communication?

Applications should include a short project description of max. two pages outlining the sustainability concept, a budget forecast, CV, list of all individuals involved in the project, video links and technical information. Applications may be submitted in English or German to fragile@pina-bausch.de. Travel and transportation costs, accommodation, fees, per diems and technical support will be covered. Decisions will be made by a panel of experts and participants will be announced by May 31, 2023.
