Open Call for Privacytopia Festival

Privacytopia announces an open call for artist submissions for their first international festival. The inaugural edition of the festival will take place in Ghent, Belgium, in March 2024, and will continue to a different European city each year. Bridging art and privacy, the festival explores data-usage, data profiling and data monetisation, including the consequences on both the individual and society.

Curated by Régine Debatty, Privacytopia is run by Privacy Salon, a Brussels-based non-profit organisation researching the social and ethical implications of new technologies. The works exhibited at Privacytopia will touch on topics including surveillance, AI, neurotechnology, transhumanism, robotics, deep fake, datafication, hacktivism and digital labour.

Projects are welcome from both individuals and collectives from all stages of their career and all locations. All mediums are also invited, including painting, sculpture, photography, digital art, performance and more, and the submissions should be finished and ready for exhibition by the end of the submission period. They should be sent to info@privacytopia.org and include an artist statement, a portfolio and a short artist biography.

Selection will be made by the committee, which includes Régine Debatty (Curator of Privacytopia 2024), Marleen Wynants (Founder & advisor of Crosstalks, VUB), and Thierry Vandenbussche (Artistic Director of Privacytopia). An artist fee and transportation costs are covered for selected works, with a case-by-case proposal sent to each artist.
