Open Call for XR_Unites 2021

Nov. 17, 2020

Extended Reality (XR) provides an experimental ground for new possibilities of interaction. XR_Unites is calling for Berlin-based interdisciplinary teams involved in the independent cultural scene and creative industries to explore the artistic potential of interactive multi-user experiences in XR. No special topic is given. XR_Unites offers, tips and support for agile development, the necessary software and a contingent of XR hardware for testing and presentation purposes (including AR and VR glasses). The XR_Unites expert board provides feedback on implementation. The collaboration will lead to a presentation at the Tieranatomisches Theater in Berlin-Mitte.

The participating artists and cultural workers expand their network, gather valuable contacts and experience in the interdisciplinary agile development of creative XR applications. And, because XR_Unites is an HTW project, it also supports interested creatives in founding their own start-ups in the field of XR, art and culture with brilliant ideas, expanded know-how and teams that have proven themselves in the course of cooperation.

Interdisciplinary teams of at least three people working and living in Berlin are encouraged to apply. The result of the project will be an interactive XR multi-user experience with performative elements. XR_Unites is looking for innovative and feasible concepts. This collaboration begins on January 15th, 2021 until the final presentation in October 2021. The jury includes Franziska Ritter and Pablo Dornhege (project lead Im/material Theatre Spaces; directors and delegates of Digitality and New Technologies at the Deutsche Theatertechnische Gesellschaft e.V.); Oliver Proske (director of Nico and the Navigators, Board member of the Bund der Szenografen and founder of the AG Digitaler Raum); Dagmar Schürrer (video artist, expert for XR art and digital media production); Peggy Schoenegge (XR curator, curator and PM of the platform peer to space and Board member of medienkunst e.V.).

Interested applicants are encouraged to participate in Zoom-In: Sonderausgabe #2.1 XR unites! on November 19th, in order to prepare their application.
