SILVIA AGOSTINI: Steady Cadence

Monday, May 16, 2011

The opening of Silvia Agostini’s ‘Steady Cadence’ struck a chord with me. Three large video installations with seemingly static material at first glance, turned out to be a piercing statement about our own illusions of the grandeur of life, stagnation, and the steady cadence of time.

With a jogger, a bottle, and a puddle on the street as it’s actors, the stories unfold either with an absurd suspense, an illusion of finality, or a feeling of unending entrapment.

Photographs in the adjoining rooms accompany the film works with similar themes.
