Berlin Art Week…are you ready?

This week, art-lovers of Berlin will be welcoming the beginning of a very busy autumn and coming out en-mass for some fantastic fairs and events that are offered as part of opening week of Berlin’s 2011 Kunstherbst. To get you into the same frenzied excitement that we’re feeling here at Berlin Art Link, we’ve put together the definitive guide to all the major happenings around town.

Besides being present at all of the exhibits, Berlin Art Link will be hanging out at Preview Berlin. Whether you‘re wondering where to go next, want to find out more about us and our services, or just simply want to say “hello” and share your Berlin Art Week experiences, we’ll be there.

During open hours of Preview Berlin (September 9 – 11), we will have a live Twitter feed from our media forum at Preview Berlin. We invite all of you to send us your discoveries of the week through photographs, testimonials and/or videos. abc ART BERLIN CONTEMPORARY
Despite only being founded four years ago, abc (art berlin contemporary) has an esteemed reputation as a new independent, hybrid exhibition format, between curated show and gallery event. This year abc art berlin contemporary will address the topic of painting displaying work from 125 of Berlin’s leading galleries and artists.

This year’s abc focuses on painting- as possibility, not as ideology. Here, ‘about painting’ will survey contemporary painting practices, presenting not only works on paper or canvas, but also videos, photographs and sculptures that deal with the classical medium. The combination of critical and confident use of paint is a defining feature of a wide variety of current artistic practices that deal with pictures either on the wall or in space.

PREVIEW BERLIN
For it’s 7th year, Preview Berlin: The Emerging Art Fair will be offering young national and international galleries and project spaces the opportunity to present works by a new generation of emerging artists to a public made up of collectors, specialists and art enthusiasts.

Held in the former Berlin Tempelhof Airport, Preview Berlin has developed a progressive and ambitious art fair concept in the form of a curated exhibition without the classic fair construction. After last year’s white cube exhibition booths, central meeting lounge, and wide open spaces for installations and performances, it will be a point of interest to see how the directors will present the fair in this expansive and impressive space. PREVIEW BERLIN will also be offering tours and workshops for children.

What sets BERLINER LISTE apart is the fact that the fair also presents exhibitors who exclusively show photography, having expanded its previously successful photography section again and again over the past years. Their avant-garde angle aims to present young and unknown contemporary artists, setting them to rise into the professional market, which could prove useful to new or emerging collectors and curators.
