ACE GOLD – Fundraiser!

by Jeni Fulton // June 1, 2012

What happens when a group of artists meet up to exchange their works on a larger scale, and reclaim the role of the collector in one of its original senses, that of patrons and facilitators? Alexine Chanel founded the ARTIST/COLLECTOR EXCHANGE (ACE) in September 2011. Rather than being just a forum for exchange of works and debate, Chanel also wanted to conduct a behavioural experiment: what happens to the artist’s gaze when he/she acts as a collector? The format is simple and fluid: five artists serve as hosts. Each host in turn invites a guest artist, and each artist is expected to contribute six pieces.

Within the ACE project, artists expand their creative communities, discuss their practices, and exchange their works of art while simultaneously building their own art collections. The ACE Salons were held monthly for more than half a year and the outcome of these afternoons will be on display in a group exhibition in September at the Freies Museum. In addition to the exhibition ACE will be producing a catalogue featuring all of the participating ACE artists.
