Open Call: Kunst braucht Fläche – Art needs space

AV Aussenwerbung GmbH & Co. KG is searching for young, talented, undiscovered artists to showcase their works to the public. AV Aussenwerbung GmbH & Co. KG is a Berlin based company specialized in cultural advertisement. From July 21st for two weeks (until August 5th), several of selected urban advertisement spaces (such as billboards, city banners, and columns in various sizes) in the inner Berlin city centre, will be open for Berlin based artists to show their work. The project is of a non-commercial nature, and its purpose is to give a platform for young artists to present their work to a wider public as an integrated part of the urban environment.

You choose in which 2-dimentional media you would like to present your work. Whether it is photography, drawing or painting, collage or printmaking, etc. (As a supporting element, e.g. performance could be a part of your piece, although only on the actual opening day).

If you would like to participate, please submit

▪ A project description (max 1 x A4 page)
▪ Supporting images / sketch/ plan of the project (jpg)
▪ A short CV (max. one A4 page) incl. email and web address
Keep in mind: Have a look at some photos/overview of the selected advertisement spaces on A larger space can be divided between several artists if needed. The smallest format submittable is A1 (841x594mm), the biggest – 20x2m. All the advertisement spaces will be covered with white 120 g/qm Poster paper for you to work with/on.
Also: Site-specific projects might be chosen even if the specific place is not available. This can then be discussed with the artists individually, after the selection process. A material budget can be a part of your application (max. one A4 page) although AV Aussenwerbung GmbH & Co. KG cannot guarantee financial support. New works made for the project are appreciated, however, existing works are also welcome for submission. All applications should be marked with the subject “open call” followed by the applicants name and sent to: The project team will focus on choosing artist proposals which seem realizable within the given time/scale/budget. The selection will be announced within a week of the submission deadline.

If your work is selected: Saturday July 21st and Sunday July 22nd, all the selected artists will install their work individually. As mentioned, a performative element (e.g. music, dance, performance art etc.) can be added to your artwork on the day(s) of installation.

What does AV Aussenwerbung GmbH & Co. KG provide?

▪ Your work presented in a prominent spot in the middle of the city centre for the duration of two weeks starting July 21st/22nd, 2012.
▪ A professional press announcement of the event, a map of all the different project locations and documentation (photos and video) of the project presented as a part of their website. A catalogue with the documentation will be available after the project ends.
▪ A wide audience
