On September 16-21, the city’s pulse will rise as visitors and denizens move between the various art events, performances, openings, exhibits, and discussions of Berlin Art Week. For the third time, Berlin Art Week has gathered art fairs – abc (art berlin contemporary) and Positions (a reincarnation of the Preview Berlin Art Fair) – along with the major galleries of the city, renowned institutions, and carefully selected alternative arts projects. One of the new program features this year will also be an international conference Artfi – The Fine Art & Finance Conference.
The grand opening will kick off the busy week on Sept. 16, 2014, at 7 pm at the Akademie der Kunste. During the opening, guests will be able to view one of the major highlight exhibits of the month (maybe year), “Schwindel der Wirklichkeit / Vertigo of Reality,” featuring a slew of international art stars including Marina Abramović, Thomas Demand, Olafur Eliasson, Harun Farocki, and Bill Viola (just to name few), as well as an open-air concert featuring several bands, events at the Metabolic Office for the Repair of Reality, and a performance piece by Christian Falsnaes. Admission to the opening night is free.
