Open Call // CTM Festival 2017: Music Makers Hacklab and Research Networking Day

Article by Brigid Cara in Berlin // Friday, Nov. 04, 2017

CTM Festival is currently calling for applications from artists and developers from various disciplines to submit music project ideas for the opportunity to participate in a week of intensive activity for Music Makers Hacklab. Selected participants will explore, imagine and create new musical inventions reflecting CTM’s ‘Fear Anger Love’ theme in a collaborative, improvisatory, experimental environment with the aim to conceive and realise new ideas.

Additionally, in collaboration with Humboldt University’s Department of Musicology, CTM Festival is also seeking short presentation proposals around the festival theme ‘Fear Anger Love’ from students, young researchers and emerging artists traversing the fields of audio, arts, media, design and related theoretical disciplines to meet and share ideas at The Research Networking Day (RND).

A major aim of the CTM Festival is to make space for radical and extreme forms of musical expression and dissonant emotions. Under the title ‘Fear Anger Love’, CTM 2017 plans to focus explicitly on such emotions in or through music and the diverse strategies that are applied to unleash or harness them, thus tracing the complex relations between bodies, affect and politics.

The 18th Edition of the CTM Festival will take place from the 27th January – 5th February 2017 at various Berlin venues, some of them new and others seasoned veterans like Berghain, HAU Hebbel am Ufer and Kunstquartier Bethanien.
