Exhibition // Cressida Campbell and Tim Storrier: ‘Difficult Pleasures’

Article and Photos by Brigid Cara in Berlin // Monday, Jan. 30, 2017

The exhibition ‘Difficult Pleasures’is now showing at Contemporary Fine Arts, with works by two Australian painters, Cressida Campbell and Tim Storrier.

Campbell’s paintings capture domestic interiors and still-lives, yet her scenes go beyond the mere representation of what is observed. In these works, elements are omitted and colours manipulated in order to create subtleties of design and pattern.

Tim Storrier’s unusual landscapes are symbolic and emotionally-charged. Using the Australian landscape as a backdrop for his dramatic sense of space, Storrier’s paintings are more concerned with capturing the human psyche than with making a recording of the physical world.

The finely-crafted compositions of nature exhibited in ‘Difficult Pleasures’ show two artists each with an impressive command of their medium.

Why so many images of Storrier’s work and none of Cressida Campbell’s. I read hers was terrifically popular…but men get all the press. I’d love to have seen fair representation in your guide.
