In the heart of Berlin’s Botanischer Garten, artist Flavio de Marco showcased a colourful and floral body of work for one evening in the tropical green house. In collaboration with The Silk Road Symphony Orchestra, de Marco embedded his tropically-inspired drawings within a musical performance of Debussy, Ligeti and Mozart.
According to de Marco, the relationship between the Western art world and its natural surroundings is impaired. Influence of the natural world has undoubtedly influenced numerous Western composers in the richness of sounds, colour and tones. All three composers prided their musical offerings on the presentation of beauty: Debussy through the romance of the Baroque, Mozart through the world of Opera, and Ligeti through the avant-garde.
In a similar vein, de Marco offers his artistic interpretation of beauty through landscape drawings encased in a tropical paradise. The combination of music, art and nature catalyses the sense of a Utopian dream in which inhabitants must observe the beauty around them.
