The C/O Berlin Talent Award invites people working in the discipline of fine art photography and photography theory to apply to the annual open call for entries in 2021. This unique award seeks to acknowledge the exceptional work in photography, in both practice and theory. €7,000 will be awarded to the winner of the art category and €3,000 for the theory category.

Upon receiving the award, the winner of the art category will host an exhibition of their work accompanied by a publication published by Spector Books. This publication will include an essay written by the winner of the theory category on the selected work as well as an interview conducted by the theorist with the artist.

Theorists can freely apply to be appraised for the award, but those looking to apply to the art category must be nominated. From the submissions, C/O Berlin will select the winner in collaboration with two independent juries of experts from the field of photography theory and history.

The theme of this year’s award is ‘New Documentary Strategies.’ This theme hopes to inspire a critical approach to traditional documentary narratives and to encourage a more diverse use of media in museums and galleries.

Submissions must be sent to talent@co-berlin.org by February 14th, 2021.
