Foundwork Announces 2021 Artist Prize Open Call and Jury

Foundwork has recently announced the open call and jury for the 2021 Foundwork Artist Prize. This is the third year that Foundwork will issue its annual juried award to recognize and support outstanding practices by contemporary artists. The deadline to register is October 10th, 2021 and artists working in any media are eligible.

This year, for the first time, two honorees will receive unrestricted $10,000 grants and studio visits with each of the distinguished jurors. The honorees and three shortlisted artists will also be invited for interviews in the Foundwork Dialogues program to further public engagement with their work.

The jury for the 2021 Foundwork Artist Prize includes leading international curators, gallerists, educators and artists, including: Vanessa Carlos, founder of Carlos/Ishikawa Gallery, London and CONDO international gallery collaborative; Qu Chang, independent curator and art historian, Hong Kong and Shenzhen and former curator at Para Site, Hong Kong; Bridget Donahue, owner and director of Bridget Donahue Gallery, New York; Cédric Fauq, curator at Palais de Tokyo, Paris and incoming chief curator at CAPC Musée, Bordeaux; Thomas Lawson, artist and dean of the School of Art, CalArts, Valencia, as well as Editor-in-Chief of East of Borneo; Thiago de Paula Souza, independent Curator, São Paulo and co-curator of the 2021 Frestas Triennial of Arts, Sorocaba, São Paulo, and part of the curatorial team for the 10th Berlin Biennale.

The Foundwork Artist Prize is open to artists residing in any location worldwide with limited exceptions. Artists should see the FAQ and Prize Rules on the Foundwork website linked below for instructions, terms and conditions. Further questions can be addressed to support@foundwork.art.

Foundwork membership costs $4 per month and can be canceled at any time. To be eligible for the 2021 prize, artists will need to have a profile on the Foundwork website, with at least 6 artworks published on their profile page, throughout the selection period: 5pm PT, October 10th, 2021 through 5pm PT, November 30th, 2021.

For those who aren’t familiar, Foundwork is a platform for artists to introduce their work to people across the contemporary art community, with the aim of supporting access and discourse between artists, curators, gallerists and collaborators, wherever they are based.
