The cultural complex SODAS 2123 invites sound artists from Baltic and Nordic regions to a funded two month-long artist-in-residency programme in Vilnius, Lithuania. The SODAS 2123 cultural complex is a self-governing community-based space, operated and curated by the Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association. It brings together creators and researchers from different fields, with practices based on experimentation and developing unexpected formats. The residency will run between December 1st, 2022 and January 31st, 2023 and between April 1st, 2023 and May 31st, 2023.
The programme seeks artists who use field recordings, auto-tuned, sung or spoken words, mixed sounds, installations or other sonic interpretations to react to the latest (geo)political, ecological and social issues, and are particularly interested in manifestations of sounds that raise important questions and construct visions of social, cultural and spatial futures.
The programme is open to various sound art formats and artists with various backgrounds are welcome to apply. Only artists from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania (as well as the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and Åland) are however eligible to apply.
Successful applicants will receive a residency grant of 1600 euros each (tax inclusive) and be invited to live and develop their projects in SODAS 2123. Residents will be living in the studio apartments at SODAS 2123. The complex is located in a repurposed school building about 15 minutes walk from Vilnius Old Town, in a calm and friendly neighbourhood called Rasų Kolonija. The residency provides individual rooms (28 m2 individual room with kitchenette and bathroom or 27 m2 individual room with shared kitchen and bathroom) and the opportunity to work in a shared studio.
In order to apply, fill in and send the online application form to email@example.com. The main selection criteria will be the applicant’s creative practice and experimentation, the relevance and importance of topics and thematic questions the artist is raising within their artworks, the necessity to develop artistic projects in SODAS 2123 and its cultural value for the local community.
Deadline: Sept. 10, 2022
