The 2023 VR Art Prize awarded by Deutsche Kreditbank (DKB), in cooperation with the Contemporary Arts Alliance (CAA) Berlin, is currently accepting submissions. The VR Art Prize is the first art prize for virtual reality in the field of visual arts with an institutional exhibition in Germany. Eligible applicants should be working visual artists and have their primary residence in Germany. Artists should submit one of their current pieces of VR work, a sketch for a corresponding augmented reality work, and a design sketch for an associated room installation exhibited at HaL Große Galerie.
This year’s VR Art Prize theme is ‘Virtual Utopias,’ aimed at artists interested in using virtual reality and spatial installations for social change. The prize focuses on the artistic potential of new technologies and aims to contribute to the structural establishment of VR as a rapidly emerging medium in visual art.
In cooperation with the CAA Berlin, DKB awards 5 working grants to visual artists who work with virtual reality. Each grant is for a period of four months and is worth € 1,000 per month. In September and October 2023, the works of the winning artists will be shown at an exhibition at Haus am Lützowplatz (HaL) Berlin. A total of three VR ART PRIZES will be granted, with a total endowment of € 12,000.
