Open Call for Researchers Working on Female and Non-Binary Artists

Oct. 18, 2022

AWARE: Archives of Women Artists, Research and Exhibitions is launching a residency programme at the Villa Vassilieff in Paris for research on female and non-binary photographers and video artists. AWARE: Archives of Women Artists, Research and Exhibitions is a non-profit organisation, co-founded in 2014 by Camille Morineau, art historian and specialist in the history of women artists.

To counter the underrepresentation of women in the art world, AWARE seeks to rebalance the presence of women artists by giving them more visibility through the publication of free online resources. The bilingual French/English website provides more than 900 biographies of women artists from the 19th and 20th centuries as well as articles and interviews written by researchers and curators from around the world.

Payment of a round trip ticket between the place of residence and Paris, a living allowance of 900 EUR/month, i.e., 2,700 EUR for the entire residency. Required is a minimum of a Master’s degree.

During their stay, the resident will be invited to host a meeting at the Villa Vassilieff (conference/round table/masterclass) to present their research. At the end of the residency, they will be invited to write a research article to be published on the AWARE website.

Applications should be sent online by November 6, 2022. They should include a CV, research proposal and short letter of motivation.
