Open Call for Art & Technology Performances

June 23, 2023

Asian and multicultural artists are invited to submit performance-based work that delves into the realm where art and technology converge. The work will be performed in a festival organized by the Center of Modern East Asian Studies at the University of Göttingen. Actors, dancers, musicians and multidisciplinary artists are all invited to submit proposals for a performance, the duration for which should be between 20-30 minutes.

The constantly changing landscape of technology continues to influence the art world, revolutionise creative expression and push boundaries into new territories. As the world continues to witness rapid technological progress, the Center of Modern East Asian Studies seeks artists responding to the synergy between art and technology. Both solo artists and collectives at all levels of their career are invited to submit, with encouragement for applications from individuals who identify as queer and those who may face forms of discrimination.

There is an estimated artistic fee of €400 per artistic contribution, though production costs or expenses related to rehearsals are not covered. Applicants needing additional financial assistance will be viewed on a case-by-case basis. In addition to physical presentations, the festival will include an online platform, showcasing videos and exhibitions. For the online platform there is an estimated artistic fee of €200 per virtual project.

Submitted proposals will be reviewed by a panel of experts in the fields of art and technology, including Georg Hajdu and Hiroshi Koike, and selected artists will receive feedback by September 15th, 2023. Each submission will be reviewed based on originality, artistic vision, technical feasibility and alignment with the theme of “Art and Technology.”
