Open Call for Forecast’s Mentorship Program

Jan. 30, 2020

Forecast invites artists and creative thinkers to apply for its 2020 mentorship program. Trans-disciplinary cultural workers are encouraged to apply with projects that could benefit from the expertise of one of the mentors in this edition. This year’s mentors are: chef Manu Buffara (Brazil), curator Koyo Kouoh (Cameroon), writer and researcher Evgeny Morozov (Belarus), visual artist and theater director Markus Öhrn (Sweden), musician Du Yun (China) and photographer and filmmaker Tobias Zielony (Germany).

Forecast was established in 2014 by Freo Majer and it provides a trans-disciplinary context for architects, designers, curators and artists to participate in a mentorship program. Before Forecast started its long-term cooperation with Radialsystem in 2019, it was co-produced by and held at Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin.

In the first part of the selection process, each mentor selects three candidates to come and present their ideas at the Forecast Forum in Berlin, taking place from July 13–19, 2020. The accommodation and travel costs will be provided for the selected candidates. The second part of the selection process will take place at the conclusion of the Forum, when each mentor chooses one mentee, whose work will be presented at the concluding Forecast Festival from April 6–10, 2021.

The selected six mentees will receive a production budget and artist fee. In addition to independent, ongoing exchanges with their mentors, the period of 9-months preparation of the project also includes a one-on-one work-stay with the mentor at an international partner institution. The mentorship’s work-stay component may take place over a period of anywhere between a week to a month, between September 2020 and January 2021, depending on the mentor’s and mentee’s availabilities.
