The City of Berlin is considering to build the new Berlin Library on the former Tempelhof airport field (now Tempelhofer Freiheit). Before the competition and planning phase kicks off, ANCB in collaboration with the Central and Regional Library Berlin want to explore the roles, tasks and functions of the public library of the 21st century as well as the demands it has to meet. The symposium will address significant aspects in an intensive, transdisciplinary discussion.

Things that can be easily expressed and separated by terms are, in reality, entangled, out of focus, alterable and, depending on the perspecitve, visible or invisible. Noise does not just describe clattering, din or sounds, but also almost implausible frequencies that can subliminally influence moods and points of view.

GLENN BROWN: HAUNTING COLOR

The Glenn Brown solo exhibition at Max Hetzler’s satellite gallery is a must-see for painting enthusiasts. Portraiture and figurative paintings, as well as ‘paint sculptures’, are presented in a grandiose flat near Savigny platz. The paintings are hauntingly beautiful and painstakingly rendered with Glenn Brown’s unique style of small, flowing lines of color.

The opening on the15th April there was a great display of affection towards the illustrative based work of Karla Marie Bentzen, of which ended in an amazing night. As Karla Marie Bentzen’s first solo exhibition went very well, and I hope to see more of her work. The exhibition runs from April 15 until May 14 2011, at the Berlin Unlike Gallery.

TEMPTATION TO BE GOOD: Mercedes Helnwein

Last night was the opening of Temptation To Be Good, works by Mercedes Helnwein at pool gallery in Berlin. The powerfully evocative exhibition offered a beautiful start to gallery weekend. Including a number of captivating pastel portraits, and a video in which these characters come to life (with music by her brother, Ali Helnwein), the artist’s third solo-exhibition at pool gallery is a must-see.
