THE PUBLIC SCHOOL
Scheduled Course: REVIEWING MAKING-VISIBLE
Saturday, March 5; 2:00 pm
This course is free and open to the public. Please RSVP here
Invalidenstrasse 115 (click here for map)

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This class will discuss and elaborate upon the broader issues related to the theatrical object, in this case more specific to the subject of “making-visible” through representation, drawing, and simulation. Making-visible points to the public nature of knowledge. Only by being made-visible can something become the subject of a discourse, whether it is an object or a process. This broad field situates it’s subjects in different, if disparate habitats, yet they all seem to have something in common: the production of an aesthetic that is at once operational and thus discursive. But how does making-visible imply an elusive capacity to serve its users while circumventing commodification?

In order to answer this question, The Anxious Prop takes issue with the format of the ‘conference’. “Case 4: Reviewing Making-Visible” will be a staging and publication to be set forth on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 in Berlin, which will include the participation of several guest experts, including Hans-Jörg Rheinberger. The Anxious Prop hopes to broaden its base and production process through this class. The ensuing conversation aims to further collectivity, in this instance, to expand mutual knowledge by blurring the roles of all participants through this formative dialogue about epistemology in cultural production.

Segment-texts by Rheinberger, Kaprow, Bachelard, Husserl, Raunig, Clark, among others (TBA).

Facilitators: Luis Berrios-Negron, Jan Bovelet, Miodrag Kuc, Eric Ellingsen
